HowManyPieces is primarily aimed at quilters who like to design, but would prefer to avoid surprises when using their fabric stash.

HowManyPieces asks for a figure type:

  • Squares
  • Rectangles
  • Hexagons
  • Circles
  • or any of four types of Triangles
...then for the length and width of the fabric piece, finished figure size, and seam allowance. Click Calculate, and a report is generated showing:
  • Cutting layout for the first four rows
  • Cutting template size (HowManyPieces adds the seam allowances for you)
  • The number of pieces, given precise cutting, you can expect to get from your fabric
  • and written cutting layout instructions for that number of figures
The math is done for you! Save the report as a PDF, or print it and take it to your sewing area.

NOTE: The generated layouts leave VERY little room for cutting error. If you think your cutting style is less precise, you may not get the same number of figures from your fabric. You may want to practice a bit before cutting into valued fabric.
